What Is Today's Date?

Today's date is shown with everything people usually look up alongside it: the weekday, the day number of the year, the ISO week number, how many days are left in the year, the quarter, and the dates one week to six months from now. Pick another date to see the same facts for it.

What this page shows

The date is read from your device's clock when the page opens, so it is always current. Beside it you get the facts that forms, planners and spreadsheets ask for: the day of the year (1 to 365, or 366 in a leap year), the ISO week number, the US-style week number, the quarter, how many days remain in the year and how far through the year we are as a percentage. The dates 7, 14, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 180 days ahead cover the most common deadlines — a two-week notice, a 30-day return window, a 90-day trial. For any other span, use the days from today calculator.

Day of the year

January 1 is day 1 and December 31 is day 365 (366 in a leap year). To find it by hand, add up the lengths of the finished months and then the day of the current month. The "days left" figure is simply the year's length minus the day number.

ISO week numbers and the Thursday rule

The international standard ISO 8601 numbers weeks from 1 to 52 or 53 with two rules: a week runs from Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year's first Thursday (equivalently, the week containing January 4). A consequence is that the first few days of January can belong to the last week of the previous year, and December 29–31 can belong to week 1 of the next year. The calculator applies the rule directly: it finds the Thursday of the current week and counts how many weeks that Thursday is into its own year. Businesses, payroll systems and shipping schedules in Europe use ISO weeks; Excel's ISOWEEKNUM function gives the same answer.

Why US week numbers differ

Calendars in the United States usually start the week on Sunday and call the week that contains January 1 "week 1", however short it is. That numbering (the "Week of the year (US, Sunday start)" row, and Excel's default WEEKNUM) can be one higher than the ISO week, and it can reach week 54 in some years. When someone quotes a week number, ask which system they mean.

2026 calendar facts

2026 is not a leap year (it is not divisible by 4), so it has 365 days and February has 28. The year begins and ends on a Thursday. Because January 1 is a Thursday, 2026 is one of the years with 53 ISO weeks: week 1 runs from December 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026, and week 53 runs from December 28, 2026 to January 3, 2027. Quarters begin on January 1 (day 1), April 1 (day 91), July 1 (day 182) and October 1 (day 274).

Unix timestamp

The last row is the number of seconds from January 1, 1970, 00:00 UTC to midnight UTC at the start of the chosen date — the form in which computers store dates. Multiply it by 1,000 for the millisecond form used by JavaScript.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's date?

The large card at the top shows today’s date according to your device’s clock, with the day of the week. Everything else on the page — day of the year, week number, days left — is calculated from it.

What day of the year is it?

The "Day of the year" card counts from January 1 as day 1. December 31 is day 365, or day 366 in a leap year such as 2028.

How is the ISO week number calculated?

Weeks run Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week containing the year’s first Thursday. Find the Thursday of the current week, count the days from January 1 of that Thursday’s year, divide by 7 and add 1.

Why is December 30, 2024 in week 1?

Because its week (Monday, December 30, 2024 to Sunday, January 5, 2025) contains Thursday, January 2, 2025 — the first Thursday of 2025 — so under ISO 8601 the whole week is week 1 of 2025.

How many days are left in 2026?

Open this page and read the "Days left in the year" row; it is 365 minus the day of the year. On October 8, 2026, for example, 84 days remain.
