Signature Generator

Draw your signature with your mouse, finger or a stylus — or type your name and pick a handwriting style. Download it as a transparent PNG or a sharp SVG to place in Word, PDF and other documents. Nothing is uploaded.

Runs entirely in your browser: your signature and name are never uploaded or stored.

How to create your signature

Draw it

  1. Choose Draw, an ink color (black or blue are the usual choices for documents) and a thickness.
  2. Sign above the line with your mouse, a finger on a touchscreen, or a stylus. With a pen that senses pressure — Apple Pencil, Surface Pen, a drawing tablet — pressing harder makes the line wider, like real ink.
  3. Not happy? Undo removes the last stroke, Clear starts over.
  4. Press Download PNG or Download SVG.

Type it

  1. Choose Type and enter your name.
  2. Pick one of four handwriting styles and an ink color.
  3. Press Download PNG.

Drawing on a phone? Turn it sideways for a wider pad. A trackpad works too, but a finger or stylus on a touchscreen gives the most natural result.

How it works

While you draw, the page records the points your pointer passes through — including the extra points the browser collects between two screen frames, so fast strokes stay smooth. Each point becomes the control point of a curve that runs through the midpoints on either side of it, which turns the jagged trail of a mouse into flowing lines. The drawing is stored in a fixed coordinate space, so it doesn’t change when you rotate a phone or resize the window.

When you download, the signature is cropped to the ink with a small margin, so there is no large empty frame to trim:

The typed styles use four open-source script fonts — Great Vibes, Allura and Ms Madi by Robert Leuschke and Caveat by Impallari Type, all under the SIL Open Font License. They are loaded from this site only when you switch to Type, and they cover the letters of English and of most Western European languages.

Example: signing a PDF form

Draw your signature, download the PNG, then open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader, use Fill & Sign, choose to add a signature and pick the Image option to select the file. In Microsoft Word, use Insert › Pictures, then set the picture’s text wrapping to “In front of text” to place it on the signature line. To turn a signed photo or scan into a PDF, use JPG to PDF; to combine the signed page with the rest of a document, merge PDF.

Is an image of a signature legally binding?

A signature image is a convenience, not a certificate. In the United States, the federal ESIGN Act of 2000 and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act adopted by most states give electronic signatures legal effect in many transactions, but whether a pasted image is enough depends on the document and on what the parties agree. In the European Union, the eIDAS regulation distinguishes simple, advanced and qualified electronic signatures; advanced and qualified signatures must be uniquely linked to the signer and identify them — qualified ones through a qualified certificate — which an image cannot do. Wills, notarized and court documents, and many government forms have their own requirements. If a document must be signed in a specific way, use the service or method it asks for — and if in doubt, ask the recipient or a lawyer.

Create only your own signature. Signing someone else’s name without permission is forgery.

Tips

Privacy

Your signature is drawn and saved by your browser on your device. Nothing you draw or type is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else, and it is gone when you close the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?

No. The signature is drawn and converted to PNG or SVG inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes. Only the ink is opaque, so the signature sits cleanly on top of a document, a form line or colored paper. The image is cropped to the signature with a small margin.

Why can’t I download a typed signature as SVG?

A typed signature is text in a font, and turning its letters into vector curves needs font data this page doesn’t process. Typed signatures download as a high-resolution transparent PNG; drawn signatures can be saved as both PNG and SVG.

Is a drawn signature legally valid?

It depends on the document. Many everyday forms accept an image of your signature, but it is not a certified or qualified electronic signature. Contracts, government and notarized documents can require a verified e-signature service or a handwritten signature.

Can I draw with a stylus or Apple Pencil?

Yes. Pens are supported through the browser’s pointer events, and their pressure makes the line wider or thinner as you press.
