How to make a passport or ID photo online
- Choose a recent, clear, front-facing portrait. Take it against the correct plain background for the application you are completing. Uploading to CalcWorthy is not necessary: the file is decoded locally by your browser.
- Select the appropriate preset. The US printed passport/visa size is 2 × 2 inches; the UK printed passport size is 35 × 45 mm. Indonesia commonly asks for 3 × 4 or 4 × 6 cm pas foto for recruitment and administrative forms.
- Drag the image within the preview to center the head and shoulders. Use Zoom to remove unused background, but do not crop off the top of the head, chin, or shoulders needed by the application.
- Download the single JPG for a form, or choose A4 or a 4 × 6-inch print sheet. The tool repeats as many full-size copies as safely fit on the sheet without stretching faces.
- If printing, select actual size or 100% in the print dialogue. Automatic fit-to-page scaling can invalidate physical dimensions even when the JPEG has correct 300-DPI metadata.
Exact dimensions and examples at 300 DPI
Pixels are calculated using pixels = millimetres ÷ 25.4 × 300, rounded to the nearest pixel. A 30 × 40 mm Indonesian application picture becomes 354 × 472 pixels. A 40 × 60 mm photo becomes 472 × 709 pixels. The 2 × 2-inch US format is exactly 600 × 600 pixels at 300 DPI; the 35 × 45 mm UK print is 413 × 531 pixels. Minor sub-pixel rounding is unavoidable when converting physical dimensions into an integer number of pixels.
Unlike a basic image resizer, the editor preserves the chosen aspect ratio without stretching a face. Changing the crop only chooses which part of the original photograph is visible. Fresh JPG exports omit the original location and camera EXIF data, and print sheets include 300-DPI JPEG metadata. None of these operations is a face-quality or background-compliance check.
Important: a print-photo preset is not a digital-passport approval
The U.S. Department of State specifies a 2 × 2-inch print, a head between 1 and 1⅜ inches from chin to top, an unaltered original appearance, and a plain white or off-white background. We cannot verify head size, focus, identity or expression automatically. It is your responsibility to inspect those conditions before applying.
The UK government's paper-passport guidance gives a 35 × 45 mm print with a 29–34 mm head. Importantly, UK online passport applications use a different workflow: the government asks for a digital picture with upper body visible and says not to crop it yourself. Do not use our 35 × 45 mm print preset as a replacement for that digital application instruction.
Indonesian pas foto: 3×4, 4×6 and file-size rules
Different Indonesian institutions have different requirements. Some recruitment announcements ask for 4 × 6 cm photos against a red background. The Indonesian BPK recruitment FAQ has specified a 4 × 6 cm formal photo with a red background, while the BKN registration FAQ lists a JPEG upload limit of 200 KB for its cited registration process and warns that individual institutions may differ. These are examples, not universal rules or a guarantee of current acceptance. Our editor cannot turn an opaque blue background red. Take your source photograph against the requested color.
For small uploads, enter the portal's KB limit. The tool searches for a JPEG quality that meets the limit without reducing the preset pixel dimensions. If the result is impossible at that resolution, it tells you rather than secretly shrinking the photo. For a different resolution or other documents, use our image size reducer or image resizer.
Privacy, cropping and printing limits
The full photo stays in your current browser tab. No facial recognition, AI face manipulation, background-removal service, login or server upload is involved. Portraits are not saved in local storage. A photo editor cannot certify identity or whether a government agency will accept the result. Always verify official size, background, recent-photo and head-position instructions for your exact form. Be especially careful with online passport submissions, which may demand an uncropped original.
A 4 × 6-inch sheet can hold multiple 3 × 4 cm portraits, while a 2 × 2-inch image may only fit twice when margins are included. The A4 sheet gives more room. Print at actual size on photo paper using a printer or lab that respects the embedded density. If your lab changes the scaling, provide the individual JPEG and request the physical millimetre size instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does this photo editor upload my portrait?
No. The image is read, cropped and exported in your browser. It is not uploaded to our servers.
Does it guarantee passport approval?
No. Official requirements include head position, expression, lighting, clothing and background. The tool only controls picture dimensions and cropping.
Can I make a 3×4 or 4×6 pas foto for Indonesia?
Yes. The presets are 30×40 mm and 40×60 mm. Check the background color and upload KB limit in the announcement for your specific institution.
Is 35×45 mm suitable for UK digital passport applications?
Not necessarily. UK digital applications require an uncropped original with upper body visible; this 35×45 preset is for printed photos.
How do I print at the correct size?
Download the JPG sheet and select 100% or actual-size printing. Turn off fit-to-page and any automatic scaling.
Can you remove or recolor a background?
No. This tool intentionally leaves the source background untouched. Photograph against the required plain color before cropping.
