How to use the online tally counter
- Open this page and tap the large + button to record an item, a visitor, a lap or any repeated event. Each tap adds one by default.
- Use − to correct an overcount. Choose a step of 2, 5 or 10 if you are counting packs, rows or grouped items.
- Name the current counter by editing its label. Choose Add counter for separate categories such as customers, deliveries, parking spaces or sports teams. Each card counts independently.
- Use Undo after an accidental action, or choose Reset all when you intentionally start again. Reset all asks for confirmation.
- Copy nothing by hand: press Export CSV to download a spreadsheet-compatible list of counters and totals, created on this device.
Counts are saved only in your browser's localStorage, not on our servers. They normally survive closing the tab and reopening this site on the same browser and device. Private-browsing data disappears when the private window closes; clearing site data can also erase counts. Export a CSV before cleaning your browser or changing devices. We cannot recover deleted counters because we never receive them.
Why use a digital clicker counter?
A tally counter replaces a mechanical clicker when you need to record events quickly. A hand counter shows only one running value and may be awkward to correct. This web counter supplies a minus button for corrections, named counters for multiple categories, an undo action and a combined total. On a computer you can use Space to increase the currently selected counter and the minus key to decrease it, provided you are not typing in a field or pressing another control.
The total equals the sum of all running counts. For example, if you record 23 cars and 17 bicycles in separate counters, the total is 40 vehicles. If you accidentally tap the bicycle counter twice, press Undo once for each mistaken tap, or subtract one twice. The count itself is just an integer: no camera, sensor or automatic people recognition is involved.
Useful examples
| Use case | Suggested counters | Step |
|---|---|---|
| Store inventory | Boxes received, boxes dispatched | 1 or 10 |
| Event entry | Adults, children, staff | 1 |
| Exercise | Push-ups, squats, laps | 1 or 5 |
| Classroom observation | Question types or activity responses | 1 |
Different counters can start at zero and be renamed any time. You can subtract below zero if you need a signed adjustment, but counts near JavaScript's maximum safe integer will not change further; this prevents inaccurate results. The total is calculated safely, and the interface does not silently round large numbers.
Privacy, saving and export
Browser storage belongs to the current website on the current device. This tool writes one small local record when you change counters. There is no account, synchronization, login or file upload. Storage can be blocked by privacy settings or a full browser quota; if saving is unavailable, the counter still works until you close the page, so export while you can. The exported CSV is generated with a Blob in your browser and its download is never routed through our server.
Need another quick tool? The stopwatch measures elapsed time for laps. The random number generator makes numeric choices, while the Pomodoro timer helps divide work into focused sessions. A tally counter records your own observations rather than measuring time or creating random values.
Frequently asked questions
Can I count more than one thing?
Yes. Add up to 20 independent named counters and track a running total. Name them by category or task.
Does my count stay after I close the tab?
Usually yes, in the same browser and device, via localStorage. Private browsing, blocked storage or clearing site data may remove it. Export a CSV for backup.
Can I undo a wrong click?
Yes. Use Subtract or Undo. Undo covers the most recent changes in this open tab, including resets and added counters.
Are my names and totals uploaded?
No. Everything is managed in browser memory and localStorage. CSV downloads are created on your device, not uploaded to a server.
